From a breathtaking 0.5 ha plot at over 400 metres altitude on the Chaban hillside, gifted to the Roudier family by the iconic Jean-Marie Teysseire. This steep, terraced vineyard features 80+ year-old Syrah vines rooted in granitic soils containing baryte – a crystalline mineral that inspired the wine’s mysterious name.

The site forms a natural granite amphitheatre, facing East/South-East, protecting the vines from cold winds and offering perfect conditions for Syrah to fully express itself.

Despite the challenges of the 2021 vintage in the Northern Rhône (spring frost, rain at harvest), Cornas seems to have been spared, likely due to its altitude and steep slopes. This debut vintage is lush, pure and vibrant – a full-bodied, tension-filled Syrah with no oak, just stainless steel élevage and a 4-week maceration. All fruit was destemmed.
